Gateway Program

The Gateway program is a series of five free weekly two-hour seminars designed to facilitate both undergraduate and postgraduate students with English as an additional language to communicate in their course of study.

 

Communicating for success I

Reading and understanding your unit outlines. Planning your time so that you can participate actively in student life at Curtin. Taking that first step in communication - making yourself understood by others.

Communicating for success II

Developing strategies to improve your listening skills. Listening for understanding in everyday language. Listening for understanding in academic situations.

Communicating for success III

Participating in the communication process. Asking questions and understanding the answers. Speaking clearly. Strategies for participating in class and being a good group member.

Communicating for success IV

Reducing your accent for clearer communication. Strategies for preparing and practising oral presentations.

Managing your English needs agenda

Setting your own agenda for improving your English in the four areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Strategies to cope with the demands of reading and writing in your course of study.
